Below are movies showing the evolution of potential vorticity for the Charney-Hasegawa-Mima equation; left shows the enstrophy distribution in Fourier space (1282 with 2/3 circular dealiasing) and right the physical field. The movies correspond to the general initial condition from case (D) in BQL for different values of re-scaling parameter α . α=625 corresponds to the highest entrophy transfer regime. Note time and amplitudes are rescaled with α.
